NEWS ASX to start trading shares in Bitcoin miner outfit, Bitcoin Group Bitcoin Group is a Chinese/Australian company that operates 6,000 Bitcoin mining rigs across the world and is about to go live on the Australian Stock Exchange. Most of its mining operations are in China where electricity is cheap and it feels that its listing on the ASX gives investors confidence that this is a coin mining operation here to stay. I guess Australians are great at mining, so why not move from digging shit out of the ground to this 21st century mining of the future? If you like flushing your money down the toilet, here's the Bitcoin Group prospectus. Desktop and laptop PC sales slump to lowest since 2008 If you neded any more proof that mobile is eating the world, here it is. Despite huge marketing campaigns and a new release of Windows, holiday quarter sales of traditional PCs are the lowest since 2008. Lenovo, HP and Dell are still the market leaders with 18%, 17% and 12% of the market in terms of units shipped. Apple, as usual, bucked the trend and managed to grow their sales, as did Asus. Apple's iAds team sacked and replace by a self-serve system iAds, Apple's way of trying to give developers a way to monetise their iOS apps and make a bit of cash for themselves on the side, has been a bit of a dud. I think we can all agree on that. Apple has resigned itself to this fact too and is closing down iAds as we know it, and replacing it with a self-serve system publishers can use to sell ads directly. iAds becomes pretty much just a placeholder. PewDiePie's star just won't fade - starts own media company, Revelmode A few weeks ago, I never heard of this bloke, but after he got some special YouTube stuff, he's now starting his own media company - Revelmode, which will make content for YouTube, Facebook and anywhere else that gives him and his mates money. How long until this guy is on TMZ surrounded by coke and whores? Can't be that far away now. Google Maps will now give you stats and info even if you don't set a destination In the latest version of Google Maps on Android, a new "driving mode" feature will learn your common destinations and if you have the maps app open, will give you traffic info based on where it thinks you're going, without having to set a destination. Handy for when you know where you're going, but would like a heads up for any bullshit on the way. It's Android only for now, and doesn't seem to be appearing on all devices yet, but will roll around soon. COOL SHIT IBM loves the Macs - 0 to 30,000 of em in just six months I may have mentioned this before, but it's still got an "unpublished" tag on it in Pocket, so here ya go. IBM employees have taken up Macs at a great pace, going from no supported Macs to 30,000 Macs worldwide in the space of 6 months. The team responsible for doing so at IBM has implemented a best practice way to deploy the Macs and maintain them - it's seriously slick and the best implementation of Macs in any enterprise environment I've ever seen. The 38 min video is a great watch to see how badly your company deploys Macs compared to these guys. Kids are wasting time learning about how digital media piracy is bad In the UK, some schools are teaching kids aged 14-19, about how awful and bad piracy is. The "Cracking Ideas" lesson plan is designed to show kids that piracy doesn't pay and that you should get all your content from a legitimate outlet. I can't be the only one who finds this a really stupid topic that's taking up precious class time when something more useful could be crammed into these kids brains? Telstra's telecommunications museums Did you know that Telstra has a few museums around the country? in Sydney (Bankstown), Melbourne (Hawthorn) and Brisbane (Clayfield), Telstra supports volunteer groups trying to preserve our nation's telecommunications history. Here's an old post from 2010 where Museum Victoria went to the Hawthorn exchange museum. Here's some old pics on the official Telstra Flickr page that I'm sure will jog a few memories! I'd love to go check these museums out - a series of Sizzle nerd excursions perhaps? Here endeth the sizzle (until tomorrow!) --Anthony
