NEWS

Apple announces event for 21st of March At 3am on the 22nd of March (Australian time), Apple will host a product event at its headquarters in Cupertino. Rumour is that we will see a new mid-range iPhone, updates to the iPad range and some new Apple watch bands. Maybe some Mac speed bumps outside the event. I reckon there will be a bit of "fuck the FBI Gestapo" action from Timmy C too. Discuss

AlphaGo beats Lee Se-dol at a game of Go again Lee Se-dol was thrashed by a computer at Go, again. He said, "I admit that it was a very clear loss on my part. From the very beginning of the game I did not feel like there was a point that I was leading." The score is now 2-0 in the machine vs. man battle of the mind. The Chinese Go grandmaster, Ke Jie reckons the computer is a chump and he would dominate it, any time, anywhere. Discuss

YouTube Gaming launches in Australia Twitch is where all the cool kids into video games hang out and watch each other playing stuff, but YouTube doesn't wanna be left out of the action. YouTube's new dedicated gaming section is now available in Australia. It's pretty much exactly like Twitch, but on the YouTube you know and love. I do like that the YouTube gaming app for Android will record your gameplay and use the front facing camera to record reactions and the mic to capture your commentary on that sweet headshot or whatever it is the kids do on Twitch. Dude who founded Napster wants to bring 0-day movies to your home Sean Parker has been chatting around to some media types that he wants to make a Netflix style service for latest release movies. Instead of waiting months for what's at the cinema to filter down to iTunes or Netflix - pay $50 and watch it at home, on your TV, via a dedicated set top box. There's already a version of this for ultra-rich people, called PRIMA. I guess this is just taking the same concept and bringing it to the masses. Discuss

Bill Shorten promises more fibre in his NBN Bulb Snooten has said at a press conference on the NSW central coast yesterday, that if the ALP won the next federal election, that they'd make the NBN increase the amount of fibre to the premise footprint. He also said that he will release a new ALP NBN policy "between now and the election" - cool. Nice. Okay. I don't believe you. But cool. I dare you to stop the FTTN roll out Bill, I double dare ya. COOL SHIT

Cheapest ever price for AU stock Nexus 5X 32GB & Philips 40" 4K monitor JB Hi-Fi is selling the Nexus 5X 32GB for only $447 this weekend. Google just released an update that improves speed and reliability on the 5X too, so there's never been a better time to grab what I reckon is the best Android phone on the market. Only catch is that the only colour available is a pale blue, which isn't the most fetching. Also in bargain news, the Philips BDM4065UC/75 40" is a 4K monitor I've been wanting since the day it was released. It's also at it's lowest price ever, $778, delivered. Usually it sells for around $1000. So tempted, so very tempted. Discuss

Review of the Mi Band 2 Xiaomi has a new version of it's Mi Band fitness/activity tracker and Ausdroid took a closer look at one. It's a nifty little wristband that acts like a Fitbit (tracking steps and heart rate), but way cheaper and with some extra useful features. It'll work as a notification buzzer that'll buzz in various patterns depending on what the notification is. It's only around $20-30 too. Discuss

Jet Set Radiiooooooooo Y'all got your antennas on? The hottest tunes from the number 1 pirate radio station in Tokyo-to are now streaming live around the world on the Internet. I played way too much Jet Set Radio on my mate's Dreamcast back in high school. So cool that the awesome soundtrack still lives on 16 years later. I think the game is free on Steam if you wanna check it out. Discuss
